Kings
It seems it may be too late for my Kings. Unlike many fans, I fully support the firing of Andy Murray (former coach) and the special teams coach. The only problem is that I think it may have been done a bit too late. Last night's loss puts us solidly in 10th place (2 spots out of the playoffs for those of you who don't follow hockey) and it's such a bummer. Of course, our fate is still in our hands. We play a lot of teams that we can potentially help push out of the playoffs to give us a spot. As long as we start winning those in stead of losing like we did last night, we can still make it.
David's point is that they're trying to save us money. While we would save money if they don't make it to the playoffs (just as we did when there was no season last year), I want to be in the playoffs again! Two years without the playoffs has been rough! I want playoff hockey at Staples Center again!
Now if the Kings would just pay attention and play like I know they can, we'll be set... (*fingers crossed*)

Orange County Public Libraries
On the way home today, I stopped by one of the Orange County Public Libraries and learned a few things about how they work (and that the books I most wanted weren't in any of them). Then, I noticed the time and rushed home without getting anything (not even a library card), since I realized I was already late to our meeting with the contractor doing our master bath. I should have known better than to try to squeeze in a visit to a new fun book location. I can't get in and out of a Borders that quickly...
Anyway, when I got home, I checked out the Orange County Public Libraries
website. I'm in book heaven right now. I can look up
everything that I can look up at the library online at home.
Yippee!! Definitely going to be spending a bit less money on books. Also, I found out that there is a library even closer to work (still on my way home) that has most of the books I'm interested in! And, the best part is that once I get a library card and can have a pin number, etc. you can even renew your books online! This is so cool. It's like I found book nerd heaven.
The last time I went to a library for a book that I
wanted to read was in high school sometime. It was very convenient (right across the street from my high school), and it's one of those places I knew from the time we moved to Upper St. Clair. But, I hadn't been to one since then for anything other than required reading materials in college and that's so wrong.
Although I still definitely love
BookCrossing, and will still use it from time to time, I am very happy to have found a way to read so many of the books that I want to read, but don't need to own. If I decide I want to own them later, I can always buy them then.
I'm so excited! After I read the book I'll start tomorrow, I definitely have to check out the closest library to me!

The Oscars
I left this out initially, so I'm putting it in the beginning now... I think Jon Stewart did a great job hosting and hope that he gets asked back again!
I actually watched this year's Oscars live, since ABC did an interactive thing (ETV) online that I was interested in checking out. Can any of you believe that they got me to watch a show live (commercials and all, though I didn't really pay attention to the commercials)? I haven't done that in years - gotta love Tivo! Being able to watch 15 minutes late (for a half hour show, a little more for an hour) and not catching up to live till the very end is wonderfull!
Those of you who know me well know that I never use my real name. If you watched the awards and saw JLo interoduce Kathleen York as "Kath-a-leen" York might understand my earlier frustration with people not being able to pronounce my name. Eventually, I gave up and went with Kathy or Kat.
Having just seen
Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit through Netflix last night, I have to say that both David and I were disappointed that it won best animated feature. Tim Burton's
Corpse Bride was
MUCH better! I knew it wouldn't win, but Tim Burton really got shafted on this one.
I was glad to see Rachel Weisz get recognized for her work in
The Constant Gardener and Reese Witherspoon for her work in
Walk the Line. I have
Capote and
Syriana on the rental list, but those performances look great, too.
It's nice that
Brokeback Mountain had an adapted screenplay and
Crash had an original one so that they could both win one of the big awards. I'm very happy that they both won the screenplay categories.
I was torn on my favorite film of 2005. It was a tough choice. Though
Crash won the race for me eventually, I could understand why everyone thought
Brokeback Mountain would win the Oscar. It was my second favorite and I was prepared for it to win. I was very pleasantly surprised that
Crash managed to win the Oscar! It seems my favorite has been winning a lot lately (with the exception of the year the Lord of the Rings trilogy ended) and that's pretty cool. It's nice to see the awards go only a half hour over again this year, too. Also, since they're telivised live here (I wish all awards shows were), there's still plenty of time to do other things after watching them.

Sasha Cohen on Ellen
Had to add this - I was so happy to see Sasha Cohen on
Ellen! Okay, all of you who know me know I love Ellen, but even an unbiased observer would have to agree with me on this one. Ellen was the
FIRST person I've seen interview Sasha Cohen who told Sasha that she's proud of her and talked about how amazing it was that she managed to stick it out and come back to win silver! All those horrible NBC people were so mean to her. They concentrated on her losing the gold. HELLO! She won a silver medal. How many of us can say that? Getting silver is a HUGE accomplishment!
Though NBC is much better than CBS at showing the Olympics, the last two times (2004 and 2006) they had some
MEAN people interviewing the athletes. Just once, I'd like one of the athletes to answer back something like, "Look, I just won a" (insert medal or medals here)! "How many of these have YOU won?" Perhaps Michael Phelps will do that in 2008. I was ready to snap at the lady interviewing him and I wasn't the one she was being nasty to...
Okay, sorry for the rant, but if you watched the Olympics, you have to have noticed the negativity. I was so happy to see Ellen interviewing Sasha Cohen and concentrating on what a great job she did! Go Sasha!

Go KINGS Go!
Woo-hoo! The Kings won! Almost had to kill the guy next to me, since when we were ahead 2-1 with about 5 minutes left to go and the guys behind us, David, and I were talking about how we'd feel much better with another goal (the Kings are horrible at defending the lead and just playing defense) said, "We don't need another goal, we just need to play defense" (which, again, we can't do... they need to realize that the best defense is a good offense...) and
RIGHT after he said that Minnesota scored. I wanted to smack him one. Fortunately, we scored one after that and managed to survive the remaining couple minutes till the end of the game.
Anyway, I'm glad we started the time after the Olympic break off right and won the game. Hopefully, we can keep up the good work and move
up in the standings again!

Now that the Olympics are over
I thought it was time for a new look, since the Winter Olympics are behind us (well, everyone but James who was still a week behind as of last night). Since even I know the final results, I thought it was time for a change.

For other Rent musical/movie geeks
Although I spend a lot of time reading Playbill.com, somehow I managed to miss this quiz when it was posted. Not surprisingly, I got 100% as I would have then... Still a couple minutes of fun for the rest of you who love Rent, though.
Check out this
