The Oscars
I left this out initially, so I'm putting it in the beginning now... I think Jon Stewart did a great job hosting and hope that he gets asked back again!
I actually watched this year's Oscars live, since ABC did an interactive thing (ETV) online that I was interested in checking out. Can any of you believe that they got me to watch a show live (commercials and all, though I didn't really pay attention to the commercials)? I haven't done that in years - gotta love Tivo! Being able to watch 15 minutes late (for a half hour show, a little more for an hour) and not catching up to live till the very end is wonderfull!
Those of you who know me well know that I never use my real name. If you watched the awards and saw JLo interoduce Kathleen York as "Kath-a-leen" York might understand my earlier frustration with people not being able to pronounce my name. Eventually, I gave up and went with Kathy or Kat.
Having just seen
Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit through Netflix last night, I have to say that both David and I were disappointed that it won best animated feature. Tim Burton's
Corpse Bride was
MUCH better! I knew it wouldn't win, but Tim Burton really got shafted on this one.
I was glad to see Rachel Weisz get recognized for her work in
The Constant Gardener and Reese Witherspoon for her work in
Walk the Line. I have
Capote and
Syriana on the rental list, but those performances look great, too.
It's nice that
Brokeback Mountain had an adapted screenplay and
Crash had an original one so that they could both win one of the big awards. I'm very happy that they both won the screenplay categories.
I was torn on my favorite film of 2005. It was a tough choice. Though
Crash won the race for me eventually, I could understand why everyone thought
Brokeback Mountain would win the Oscar. It was my second favorite and I was prepared for it to win. I was very pleasantly surprised that
Crash managed to win the Oscar! It seems my favorite has been winning a lot lately (with the exception of the year the Lord of the Rings trilogy ended) and that's pretty cool. It's nice to see the awards go only a half hour over again this year, too. Also, since they're telivised live here (I wish all awards shows were), there's still plenty of time to do other things after watching them.
