David's 30th Birthday Party
David's 30th Birthday Party went off without a hitch (thanks mostly to Mel, who made sure everything was in order at Dave & Buster's before we got there). David's party was mostly a surprise. I had to mess up the idea of just hanging out by putting on makeup on a Saturday - something I almost never do. So close... The important thing is that David was impressed that I could pull so many of our friends and his family together for one event and everyone seemed to have a great time! It was really great to see some of our friends - we really don't see some of you enough.

Now that the Olympics are over, we're going to be able to get back into our normal routine (and Netflix will stop wondering if we vanished). We're heading to the Sawdust Art Festival in Laguna Beach tomorrow night. Neither of us has ever been there, so we're excited.

I'm also looking forward to trying out the Orange County Mining Company this Saturday for David's real 30th birthday. Another busy weekend, since his birthday is followed by a wedding and Labor Day picnic on Sunday. Thank goodness for no work on Monday! We can relax some before going back to work.

Thanks again to everyone who helped out with David's party - the fact that you've all known for so long and nobody slipped up is wonderful!

More Olympics Chatter
I was able to catch up mostly Tuesday night and was shocked to see the horrible judging on gymnastics event finals. I don't think I'll ever stop being upset about Alexei Nemov's score (and not getting gold or at least silver) on high bar, but last night's Olympics had some happy things...

I hope you all caught the men's volleyball quarterfinals (USA vs. Greece). Absolutely amazing match! Even with a migraine, I could appreciate how wonderful they were. If the men can win when the whole crowd is rooting against them, I think they can beat any team. They just need to keep up the good work! GO USA! Of course, semifinals aren't until tomorrow, so I will have to wait to find out if they can cut it.

The 100m women's hurdles really amazed me, too. We had someone collapse in the semifinals, and last night the favorite crashed and took out the woman next to her in the finals.

As usual, there is not much going on in my life other than Olympics viewing. With all that I've recorded, who whould have time for anything else?

Late Nite Catechism
Late Nite Catechism!!!

If you haven't seen it already, go see it! It is a wonderful night of comedy! David loved it, and he's not even from a Catholic family. I think this is a show everyone will enjoy, those who are Catholic or are friends with Catholics, possibly a bit more. It's a very interactive show with a lot of hilarious audience participation.

There are shows all over the country now. Check out the Late Nite Catechism site for more info. Not all of the locations are listed, so check local theatres, too. The production I saw at Laguna Playhouse was just extended to October, but it's not on the website.

It was even worth being a bit behind in my Olympics viewing. Yes, it was that good! I'm sure that if you can't get to it right away, it will be coming your way soon. Keep your eyes open and catch it when you can.

Olympics Withdrawal?
Last night, I was good for a change and actually went to bed at a more reasonable hour. Now that the Olympics have entered into the individual event for gymnastics, I can go to bed without knowing ALL of the results. (Not knowing track and field's conclusion doesn't bother me as much.) Everyone at work has been very good. Dave did joke with me today that the women's beach volleyball made it to the finals. (He didn't say which one, he was just kidding around. Clearly when the USA plays USA in the semi-finals, ONE of them will go to the finals. My bet is May & Walsh, but I won't find out if I'm right till tomorrow.

Tonight, we're going to see a show at the Laguna Playhouse. I've heard great things about the show and I'm happy about going, but clearly I wasn't thinking about the timing when I purchased the tickets. By tomorrow, I will be more behind in the Olympics than ever for this year. I'll have to play catch-up Tuesday night.

Have a great day!

US keeps racking up the medals =)

Another exciting night in the world of the Olympics! Michael Phelps is now 6 for 6 with 4 golds and 2 bronzes! How can anyone in the US not be wanting him to win medals in everything? He does it all with such style and ease, he's amazing.

And then, there was Carly Patterson (see above picture with her and Mary Lou). Carly is now the second US woman to ever get gold in the gymnastics all-around! She is the first to do it on foreign soil and she looked amazing last night. It's too bad she didn't qualify for more event finals, but the US still has many people in the event finals.

The beach volleyball has been going very well for our women, too! With both of the women's teams at 3-0, the competition should be very exciting. It's just too bad that they have to meet in the semi finals. The best they can hope for is gold and bronze, which is too bad. They're going to do it, though, which is still amazing!

Yes, my life has been revolving around the Olympics lately, but as far as addictions go, I don't think it's too bad. It's free (it even gets me to rush home rather than doing something that might cost money) and a little sleep deprivation is good for the soul, right?

GO USA!!!

Go USA!

Hello! I'm new to this whole blog thing, so don't expect much for quite a while, but so many people I know have blogs now that I just had to join in. Besides, it's slow at work today and I had to talk about the Olympics.

I am addicted to the Olympics (those of you who know me well know this is NOT an exaggeration). I have Tivoed more hours of Olympics than I could possibly explain. I am particularly into gymnastics, swimming, diving, and volleyball, though I have watched many other sports in detail. I will watch almost anything in the Olympics (I've found badminton to be too boring).

For me, the conclusion of the gymnastics men's all-around last night was one of the most amazing things I've seen on TV in a long time. It had me jumping up and down, yelling at the TV (good and bad), crying (well, there were a couple tears), crossing my fingers, ... you get the idea. It was such a rush that I had trouble getting to sleep this morning.

Okay, I guess that's it for my first post. Have a great day. I hope you're enjoying the Olympics, too!
