Cute Movie
I was watching
Little Manhattan with my husband (who didn't see it on the plane in December when I saw it) tonight and thought I'd comment on how cute it is. If you live (or have lived) in Manhattan, or even if you know it well, it's a really cute movie. Heck, if you don't know Manhattan well, it's still a cute story about a 10-year-old boy and his first love.
The bathroom continues to move along. It looks better every day now. I can't wait for it (and our closet) to be completed!

Heat Wave
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm ready for the southern CA heat wave to end. At home it's fine and anywhere else we go on the weekends. However, the down side of working for the government (yes, I've found it) is that we have to follow the governor's suggestion of setting the thermostat to 82 degrees. Now, I'm not wimp and 82 degrees isn't that hot. However, I'm in an old building and the A/C doesn't really work. Because of this, our office has always been hotter and more humid than it should be and it's the humidity that's making it bad. Plus, who knows how hot it is in here - with the thermostat not working that well in the first place... I thought I was hot last week, but it's hot now that the governor has set a new limit on A/C.
Our bathroom is coming along. We actually got the cabinets installed on Monday and they're beautiful. There are a couple minor issues, but none of it means having to send the cabinet covers back to the manufacturer or anything, so it can all be handled by the shop.
Yesterday, we found out that the bozo (Dan) we were working with ordered us the wrong kind of sink. Fortunately, since we're going to have a corian counter top with corian sinks, it's not an issue. They changed them to the normal sink size (Dan had put down that we wanted the smaller ones - why?!?!?) and everything will be taken care of by the people who make the corian countertop & sink piece. Of course, Dan messing up yet again didn't surprise me, but David's already talked to the owner of the company (on many occasions) and
if we ever use Reborn Cabinets again, we will
NOT be working with Dan. It looks like we might consider them for our kitchen and bath, though, since the owner of the company has been very helpful. I guess we'll see when that time comes.
Last night, David was saying no more projects again, but by today he's probably already working on the theatre room or some other project in his head - I know him. I'm looking forward to seeing the built-in cabinets upstairs, too. The house is really coming together nicely!

Donate Blood!
I donated blood yesterday and was shocked to find out that only about 5% of the US population donates blood - ever. That's counting all those people who donate once and then never go back. That really blew my mind. I know that there are a lot of people who don't weigh enough (*sigh* I remember when that included me...), but most of the US adult population does weigh enough. I know a lot of people are afraid of needles, but suck it up and try to donate blood. You don't have to watch them. Tell them you're scared and they'll take really good care of you.
I donate whenever I can and I'm lucky, since the blood drives on campus are right by my building, but I used to drive pretty far to donate, since I think it's important. Just think about what would happen if you were in a major car accident or something. Wouldn't you want them to have your blood type on hand? I would.
Okay, enough of my badgering people to donate blood.
I can actually post blogs directly on Eklund's
Hockey Buzz now, which is cool. Granted, my opinions of Garon not being a good goalie and LaBarbera being better than him, even, aren't very popular with the masses. Not many people commenting agree with that. Oh well, most of the season ticket holders I know see the same things I do, so at least I'm not alone in thinking this. I'm glad that the hockey pre-season is only two months away. I just hope that the Kings can do okay this year. I worry about some of the choices they've made.
Today is my sister's birthday and she loved the Ipod Nano we got her (along with my dad - we got a the most important accessories she wanted, too). Lots of future gift ideas to go with it, which is nice, too. She really loves it and she was beyond excited about the gift, which is cool. It's always nice to be able to do that. The second she mentioned that she was interested in one, I told her to be sure not to buy it (which is definitely a sign that I would work on it), but apparently she was still a little surprised.
My boss (the one I report to, not the one I end up doing work for) is leaving to go down the hall to work for the person I used to do work for. It's nice that she'll still be really close in case there are questions, but we have such a great work environment now that I worry about what it will become. What if the person they hire for Robin's job is difficult to get along with or not as easy going as Robin? We've had it great since I've been here (vacation is easy to get off as long as the other two people who support the office aren't off at the same time) and I would hate to see that change. Wish us luck!

Crazy weekends...
What a weekend! Taking the red eye to Harrisburg, then driving to Danville for your mother's 60th anniversary party and having to leave Danville just 28 hours later to return to Harrisburg to catch the flights back is TIRING! It would have been tiring without the
huge delays in my return flight last night, but landing at LAX after 12:30 in the morning is a bit amusing. There was
no one in the terminal who didn't work there other than the passengers on my flight and yet they were assigned a gate at the
very end of the terminal. Wonderful...
Had I known I'd get in so late, I probably would have taken a cab home to at least spare my husband from having to wait. The funniest thing is that initially, it was saying that our flight would be early when he checked online. Then, it said on time, then it just kept getting later and later. Apparently, landing after midnight in LAX adds an extra 25 minutes to your flight time, since the pilot has to fly you out over the ocean for your approach, so they don't wake up everyone in LA. Just what you need when you're already going to be a lot later than scheduled.
Fortunately, the trip was well worth it. My mom, sister, and everyone else there (other than Tricia, who was my accomplice and got me all the info I needed) was shocked to see me. Mom even called again today to thank me for flying out for the party.
I
finally got to meet my cousin Amy (and her husband Paul)'s
adorable children. It's sad how long it's been since I saw that group of my mom's family. The kids are always the favorites, and even with meeting Kally, Ethan, Nicholas, and PJ, I still haven't met 5 of the other kids in that generation.
We had a great time hanging out with everyone and at the party on Saturday and taking the kids to Knoebels on Sunday. The party was supposed to be at Knoebels, but unfortunately the cabin was very badly damaged in the recent PA floods.
I almost finished the book I'm reading on the trip, but got too tired for reading during part of the last flight and tried to sleep through the flights on the way there. The funny thing about the book I'm reading is that my cousin Amy was telling me (and my sister Lisa) about this really good book she's reading and she had to go get it, since she couldn't remember what it was called. It was Little Earthquakes by Jennifer Weiner. I laughed and told her what I was reading. She's already read Good in Bed and I can see why she really identified with part of what the main character in it went through now that I'm almost done reading it.
I also met a guy across the aisle from me on my first flight yesterday who went to UCI, where I work, and now works at Hershey Medical Center with my cousin's husband (Jeff). I saw Jeff's father when I was at my mom's party, but unfortunately Jeff, Kathy, and the kids couldn't make it (but I hear all the kids did well in their all star games & swim meet). Sometimes it really is a small world.
Hope your day is going well. I'm counting down to after working out with my trainer when I can shower and just
relax.

Happy Friday!
I don't know if it's the short week or my weekend plans, but I'm in a great mood right now. It's Friday!!!
I'm jealous of all of you who will see the new Pirates movie this weekend. I'd be there, but I'll be out of town, so I'll have to wait till we get back. Oh well, what's one more week?
If you haven't seen Superman Returns and Cars, I recommend that you check them out. Pixar's movies are always amazing and they did a good job with the latest Superman installment.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
