Bye, hockey...
No more hockey till September. Always seems like a long time, even though we have one of the shortest off-seasons in sports. The Oilers should be very proud of how well they did. I'm sure they're disappointed, but they did a great job. They were the first team to ever get to the Stanley Cup Finals as an 8th seed and they took it down to the last minutes of game 7. I'm glad that when they were down 2-0 they didn't give up - at least they weren't shut out of game 7.

Now, it's time to concentrate on the off season... The Mighty Ducks will no longer be "Mighty." They'll reveal their new colors, logo, and name... So much for them being named after a few crappy Disney movies. And that was so much fun to make fun of, too.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to my first love in hockey teams (the Penguins), but I'm not getting my hopes up until I see what the new GM does. Getting rid of Craig Patrick was a great start if they can work towards a younger team that will play hard.

I think the Kings have such great potential for next season. With all new management, I can't wait to see what they do for our team! Next season really could be a great season for us. I like what everyone who's come on board so far has been saying and doing, so I think we're headed in the right direction. We seem to have stepped up our management and coaching staff already and we don't even have a full team yet.

Woo-Hoo!
Way to go, Edmonton! What an exciting game! Edmonton is going to be crazy on Saturday. I hope you were watching the game if you're a hockey fan. We caught up to live just before the third period ended, so we actually watched the goal as it happened and that was such a perfect ending to the perfect Stanley Cup Finals game. I can't wait for the game on Saturday! It's going to be wonderful!

Go see Cars!
Not surprisingly, Cars is another wonderful movie from Pixar! I've decided that they can make me care about anything! From bugs to monsters to cars, I will care if they make a movie about them. Next year's movie Ratatouille looks wonderful and Toy Story 3 will be great now that Disney and Pixar have decided to team up on it and John Lasseter is directing it.

Don't miss this wonderful movie! Take the whole family and enjoy!!

I can't wait to see who takes home the Tony awards tonight, too. Always fun to watch.

Now we have a Stanley Cup Finals series!
Yippee! I was so happy to see Edmonton win tonight! I was really getting worried with their performance at the end of the first game and in the second. I know that their number one goalie is out, but that should not kill the offense! That should make the offense stronger.

I'm very glad to see that this series is going to at least 5 games. I think the Oilers can still win it, but either way it seems this will be a good series, not a blow-out. That is definitely a good thing for hockey fans everywhere!

I can't wait to see Cars tomorrow! Pixar movies are always so wonderful! The bathroom framing is really coming along. The framing is almost totally complete and the plumbing starts Wednesday. Fun, fun, fun!

In sad news, my best friend's father died yesterday. I guess it's really almost a blessing, since his dad was so sick by that time that he was barely there, but no matter how sick a person is it's still difficult to let them go. James talked me out of going across the country for the funeral next Saturday. I feel like I should be there, but I can see his point about spending all that money and time to fly in just for a weekend, but I still wish I could be there. Too bad I can't teleport in or something...

Bummed about that game...
Man, how depressing it was to watch the Oilers tonight after Carolina scored their second goal. It seemed after the second (or was it the third?) goal against them all the fight left them and they just stopped trying. It was so sad to see and I'm not even an Oilers fan. I really feel for the Oilers fans out there. It's so sad to see a team doing that.

Going into the series, I thought the Oilers would win in 7. I'm still hoping they can do that, but as history has shown, goalies are the key to the Stanley Cup playoffs and the finals make that even more critical. To lose Roloson like they did at the end of game one was a horrible blow. I thought they'd come back and win today at least because they'd be upset about losing him and need to show him they could still do well...

Apparently, that wasn't meant to be. I'll tell you, though... They had some shots that really looked like they were going to be goals. Ward made some amazing saves for Carolina. Add that to all the penalty minutes for Edmonton and the outcome isn't that surprising, in spite of the shots on goal being almost even.

OLN showed one more time how pathetic they are at showing hockey games. When the 4th goal was scored, I saw it and thought that was the last nail in Edmonton's coffin for the night. Then, I saw replay after replay and was sure that it was no goal. There was a distinct kicking motion. Nothing the guys at OLN said or showed told me any different. The score went up and I screamed at the TV. I actually thought that OLN had done something right when they disagreed with the call. It wasn't til later that OLN showed the shot from above, where you could see that after the distinct kicking motion the puck hit his stick before going into the goal, making it legal. They could have saved me a lot of yelling at the screen if they'd just shown the right angle in the first place. Everyone who loves hockey knows that for something like that 9 times out of 10 the best angle is from above the goal... *argh!*

In better news, construction on the master bath did begin today. The whole demo was done today, so they're still on schedule (for now). They'd allowed two days for demo that took less than one.

I also got to talk to Meli today! I hadn't talked to her in ages. I've gotten updates from Tom, but I really missed talking to Melissa! I got a good book recommendation, caught up on things with her, gave her my updates... It was so wonderful to talk to her. I do have to apologize, since I was watching the game at the same time and got distracted from time to time, but I really wanted to talk to Melissa and I didn't want to be in bed super late like I was Monday night with the hockey game and the Yankees game. Of course, once I got off the phone I realized that the Yankees game that's on ESPN is tomorrow night, not tonight's... Oh well, it's still better to get to bed at a more reasonable hour, right?

Here's hoping that the Yankees kill the Red Sox tomorrow and the Oilers make one hell of a comeback starting on Saturday when the Stanley Cup finals move to NBC! I want to be able to enjoy a good 5 games on NBC, not just the two remaining of Carolina can sweep Edmonton. Come on, Edmonton - make it a great series!

Damned contractors!
Well, the contractors had given David a 3-hour window when they'd show up today (though he had only told me they'd be there at noon today). And what's happening with our bathroom? You guessed it - nothing! Did they show up? No. Did they call at 2:00 when they were still in Cypress and no where near done with their project so they could clearly not be on time? No. They called at 3:15 when it was already very clear that they were late.

Needless to say, David has had a great time wasting time and yelling at the idiots. He understands that things happen, but not to get a call is ridiculous - especially on the first day when they know damned well he has to be there, since he has to give them the key for the lock box! Contractors are so annoying!

At least we know these guys do good work in spite of the few "small problems" encountered with dealing with contractors, since David's talked to people who used them and we've seen pictures. It's just really sad that common courtesy can't even be followed in a professional situation these days.

My head hurts, so I'm really looking forward to going home and resting tonight. I got back the gym last night for the first time doing weights since my fall and (surprisingly) I hurt my wrists, knee, ankle, and toe a bit from time to time while I was at the gym, but I had no lasting bad effects after icing my wrist and knee last night. Some muscle soreness today, but nothing bad, since we had to stick with light weights so we didn't kill my joints. Good to get back to the gym on a regular basis, though.

Perhaps it's better not to have a bathroom project start on 6/6/6, but I was really looking forward to it starting. And, of course, David had already taken off the door to the little room with the toilet in our master bathroom in anticipation of the demo today, so I can't even use that tonight. I know it's just one unnecessary night when it's going to be this way for over 2 months, but it's still annoying.

Here's hoping the Yankees can kill the Red Sox again tonight. Staying ahead of them is always a good thing!

What a day to love sports!
First of all, as a Yankees fan, it was great to see how they killed the Red Sox today. All of this with many of our best players injured. We have some amazing young talent up now!

Then, of course, the main game of the night - the Stanley Cup Finals game one. Edmonton came on a lot stronger than I expected, since they had so much time to rest (and get rusty) before the first game of this series. Of course, with Carolina having a lot of time to rest, too, perhaps that changed the way things started.

Edmonton broke their 6-0 record when leading after the first in the playoffs tonight, since they completely fell apart in the third and ended up losing the game 5-4. Game one didn't end the way I wanted, but with Edmonton being so well rested, they did really well. And at least it was an exciting game!

It's funny, since a friend of mine and I were disagreeing about the finals just last night. He was saying that the finals would be the worst in ages and I was saying I thought it would be a great finals. Game one was definitely a point for my side. If the rest of the series is anything like this game, it's going to be a fabulous fight to the finish in 7 games. I still think Edmonton will come out on top, but what a series it will be!

I love the Stanley Cup Finals! Even without a team I love in them, it's a lot of fun! I hope the Oilers win, since Canada deserves to get the cup back. Only one more game on OLN and then the finals move to NBC. Yippee! I can't wait to be done with OLN for the season!

In other news, our master bathroom construction (or, rather, the demo of our current bathroom) starts tomorrow! Yippee! Two months (probably more, really) of using the other bathroom and having our clothes in the other bedroom. But, the end result will be worth it. Wish we could skip to that. The new bathroom and closet will be wonderful!
