Serious Warning
I think we've all seen things on the news and read articles about drinks being drugged in bars. I certainly have. It was never real for me, though, and because of that, it had a "That doesn't happen in real life" quality to it... I mean, certainly that couldn't happen in whatever little bar I'm going to - I live in Irvine, my sister lives in Pittsburgh (PA's not even a state, it's a commonwealth - come on...), etc. But, last week a friend of mine and another of her friends went to a bar and the drink they shared was drugged.

Thankfully (I can't remember ever being so relieved), there were other people at the bar that knew them (though they weren't hanging out together). Apparently, at some point they figured out what had happened and got them a cab home, telling the driver the address and to make sure that they were okay.

They are positive that they split one drink, yet they don't remember anything after that (until the middle of the night when one of them woke up puking her guts up) and there is no way that either of them would feel anything after half a drink - especially after a big dinner. The only time my friend put down her drink was put down was for a second as she adjusted her purse. Although she and her friend are very careful when they're out, she's sure she didn't have her hand over her drink the whole night. It's very possible that he slipped it into their drink when they were talking to each other and just not noticing that others were close to them (as people always are in a bar).

I just wanted to warn you all so that you can spread the word to those you know, too. The women in question were not drunk or impaired in any way and this guy managed to slip something into their drink. If you're at a bar with a small group, be very aware of your surroundings. I know it sounds silly, but keep your drinks covered. According to my friend, all they say is totally true - you can't smell it, you can't taste it, and it only takes a second for someone to put a drug in your drink.

My friend and her friend were (and are) very lucky. My friend has always had great luck and I'm so thankful that she had it that night! But you can't depend on luck all the time. Please be careful and tell those you know and love to do the same.
