Burglary :-(
The day of my last blog (in fact, around the time of it, since the first email my laptop didn't pick up due to being closed was at 1:55 PM), we were burglarized - AGAIN! The second time in under 6 months. Are we ready to move? You bet! I can't wait for those models to open up next month. Unless we don't like any of the style of these, I am determined to make sure we move as soon as possible, which will probably be the second phase, since some builders are already starting to build.
Last time we were burglarized, they only took my laptop (which was old and we wanted to replace it), my diamond earrings (not the best and yellow gold - they skipped the good tanzenite earrings right next to them), and the old camera (they skipped the new camera, which was in the camera case they threw on the couch. This time, they took almost everything. They took the Tivo, the other DirectTV tuner, two DVD players, two VCRs, almost all my t-shirts, David's dress shirts and old flannels, the new camera, the new laptop, TONS of CD's in my CD case, the cartridge for David's car CD player, chargers for everything, the comforter, and... (this is the best part) they took it all in MY CAR!!! Kathy had driven that day, so I didn't have it. They also took the Acura books, so we had to rekey David's car, since they had the extra key for that, too. We had to rekey the house and the mailbox and (needless to say), we've had an alarm installed. Thankfully, alarms now come with transmitters like car alarm remotes to turn the system on and off. It makes life so much easier. Sure, my keys will be even bulkier, but it's a small price to pay for the security that the alarm will bring.
It's going to take ages to settle with the insurance company. It took a couple weeks last time and there was almost nothing on it. This time, so much was taken and some of it was so old that we don't have receipts any more... It's craziness.
People keep asking if we know when we're going to get married... *sigh* We were JUST starting to think about that when the burglary happened and we've really had no time to think about it. I agree that we do need to pick a date sometime soon (especially since David's godparents are waiting to plan their next trip around it), but there has been so much to deal with for the burglary that there's been no time. It's going to be a LONG time before we can manage to replace everything that was taken and some things (like the Hedberg autographed shirt) can't ever be replaced.
The one cop pointed out that the burglar was almost a Darwin Award winner, since he almost electricuted himself by cutting the cables of electronics that were still plugged in. Not sure why he did that instead of unplugging everything, but he left a burn mark on our knife, which he used to cut some plugs and all the coax cables. He also managed to move the 36" TV (hard to move with two guys) some. If he'd moved it enough to get it off the shelf, he could have crushed himself to death. Would have been much cooler to come home to the Darwin Award winner than to come home with everything gone!
The good news is that all of us are okay. The kitties are healthy and happy and David and I weren't around.
